Activity described
The Syrïa cordage bag stands apart for its rare hand-looping technique, passed down through generations of Khasi women in Wahkhen Village. Unlike woven or machine-made bags, each piece is created entirely by hand, looping natural cordage strand by strand into intricate, durable patterns a process requiring exceptional patience, precision, and years of practised skill. What makes it truly unique is its deep cultural rootedness. The bags are crafted from 17 distinct natural fibers found locally in Wahkhen Village, each carefully sourced and prepared using traditional methods. This craft is practised exclusively by the women of the village, making it a living symbol of female artisanal knowledge passed down through generations.
Reported by PRIME Meghalaya in the pre-outreach data call. Shortlisting, application and funding status will be recorded after the outreach campaign.
